Dan's retrospective on Chinatown
I'm going to miss Chinatown. I'm not going to try to say that they were the best band that ever
played, because they weren't. Sure, they had great guitar solos and vocal harmoies, and a stage presence that I've never seen
matched by anyone else. That's what drew me into the music from the first time I saw them play last year. The reason they
left such an impact on me was that even though they looked and dressed and sounded like rock stars desecended straight
from the heavens, they were just regular guys trying to live their dream.
I had the opportunity to talk to them a few times, and they all have mundane jobs during the
day, trying to make ends meet, but they put it all away and play each show like they're in a 20,000 seat arena, instead of
the Seattle Center House food court where they played their third-to-last show in front of me and maybe 20 other people.
Chinatown inspired me to keep practicing the drums, to keep mixing the CD at 3 in the morning
because they always kept going too, even though they never got their record deal, or their huge fan base, or very much money.
It was a positive influence to see guys who were that commited to doing what they love. It's a shame that it
came to an end for them, but I can bet they'll find some new projects sometime soon. Maybe one day they'll even destroy
the world. Who knows.

2005, eh. That's pretty crazy. Crazy like when I was playing with fire today, I almost singed my face!
Yeah, I figured out that though gasoline ignites very quickly, it shouldn't be used to ignite logs in a fireplace.
Anyways, today was our first practice since...our concert last month! Man, that was fun. I haven't looked
at vanilla ice cream the same way since. Today we came up with two songs, one of them sounded very rock, and the other
sounded very 70's-tv-show funk. Props to James for the funky basslines. Stay classy San Diego!

Well its that time of year again, the month of extreme spending. December brings out the shopper in many people. But,
this year it seems like the Hallmark created xtras for Christmas have gone too far! Im sick of hearing Jingle Bells over 20
days before the holiday. Anyway, its a fun time, but this is a crazy month. Peace out.
